I intended to buy clothes, as my desperation for summer items was becoming unbearable, however I am always one to justify makeup over practical things. I ended up walking out of the shopping mall deprived of new clothes, instead holding a cute sized debenhams bag – that can only mean one thing..
Urban Decay always manage to suck me in with their eccentric packaging and flair for design. One of my all time favourite foundations is from Urban Decay and most products I try from them are usually admirable. Even though they have one of the better eyeshadow primer on the market, their lack of facial primers was always a little strange.
I had noticed some mention of Urban Decay’s new primers on YouTube and got extremely excited – if they are as good as their primer positions, they’re a winner. So when I came across them in the store and saw the 10% off beauty products, my intentions to buy at least one was set. I narrowed my decision to two; Optical Illusion and Self-Adjusting. I was almost convinced to buy the Self-Adjusting one but I was persuaded not to by the very, almost greasy feeling of it applied on the back of my hand.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a successful trip to the UD counter without picking up one of their famous setting sprays! I had tried one of the setting sprays in the past and was almost certain it was All Nighter. Instead of venturing out and trying one of their other – newly packaged – setting sprays, I stuck with what I thought I’d tried before.
Instantly blur flaws as you perfect your skin. Optical Illusion reduces fine lines and makes pores seem to vanish – for a gorgeous, porcelain-like texture. Makeup not only goes on better, but also lasts longer. Our cushiony formula contains optical blurring pigments, along with conditioning ingredients like rosehip and argan oil.
Directions: Apply all over skin before foundation or powder.
The colour of this primer is pink and does look almost like a radiance booster. The texture is silky and slightly tacky which is always a plus in my books! Once applied to the face, it does ‘blur’ imperfections and certainly reduces redness. I can sometimes feel a little pale once it’s first applied, but it does eventually fade. My foundation didn’t apply any differently, I just found that I didn’t need to apply so much as a lot of my imperfections were less intense. I have tested this product with and without the use of a setting spray and can safely say that it does increase the longevity of your makeup. I find that I am not as shiny by the end of the day even without using All Nighter.
Overall, I am pleasantly pleased with this product and will certainly be venturing into the rest of the new primer collection. I would recommend this to all skin types as it never felt dry on my skin – possibly due to the oils in the product – plus it kept me pretty shine free!
Stop makeup meltdown with this groundbreaking tested formula. All Nighter mists on weightlessly to keep your makeup looking gorgeously just-applied for up to 16 hours – without melting, cracking, fading or settling into fine lines. The result? Smoother-looking skin and vibrant makeup that lasts all day. For all skin types.
Directions: After applying makeup, shake bottle well. hold 8”-10” away and mist face 2-4 times, in an “X” and “T” formation.
I originally thought that this was the spray I had previously tried, however the very odd scent of this made me realise it wasn’t. The fragrance is very different and almost quite earthly – much like the scent of a fresh salad. The spray never feels sticky and doesn’t adjust my makeup in anyway apart from taking away any unwanted powder. Again, I did test this without the use of the primer and saw a noticeable difference in the way my makeup looked and lasted. My makeup really could stand the test of time wearing just this setting agent! I only really have two complaints; the scent is too strong and unappealing for me and that can really put me off a product. Secondly, the spray could be a little finer. I find that I can have large spots of liquid on my face where the product wasn’t evenly distributed.
To conclude, I will certainly be using this product everyday because the pros really do outweigh any negatives this product has. I am now very intrigued by the other setting sprays UD has to offer and will most likely pick one or two more up.
